What Is the Origin of the Cuneiform Markings in Ancient History?
The use of markings was used for so many people in a hunter-gatherer society. It's probably the ability that gave homo sapiens an edge over say the Neanderthals and perhaps the Denisovans. The cuneiform specialist Irving Finkel has made a very good point on these tokens you have in Neolithic and Bronze Age Near East which ultimately may have developed into Sumerian cuneiform.
