Freedom of Speech: Censors working overtime

Origin Story

CHAPTER

Freedom of Speech

The OED defines free speech as freedom to express one's opinions without censorship, legal penalty or any other restraint. In that definition, is any other restraint doing a lot of work? But you wouldn't know it, right? When you come to those who are making excuses for restrictions on freedom of speech, they will act very often as if state censorship is the only kind of real restriction. We're also going to talk about how emotionally difficult it can be to commit to free speech as a consistent value. Just want to shut up people whose views you know, this is amusing and blocking on Twitter as a fairly benign version of that. You have to consciously fight against that urge.
