Do Steroids Reduce Cerebral Edema Around the Brain Tumor?
In 1955, three neurosurgeons from the University of Michigan published a case series in the Journal of Neurosurgery. They reported on 21 patients that they had operated on over the previous 20 years or so That all had cranial pharyngeomas that were resected. Patients who'd received cortisone had improved postoperative outcomes. The original study was to prevent circulatory collapse, which would occur if the patient becomes acutely adrenally insufficient.
