The History of Western Philosophy

Bertrand Russell recognized early Muslim scholars as being generally encyclopedic. A lot of Greek learning was forgotten, but it was only really forgotten in Europe because what happened is that the Islamic Caliphate got quite interested in it and started learning from it. As a result, all this Greek learning was preserved. So we can thank the Muslims for preserving Greek learning so that the Europeans can pick it up again in the Renaissance.
