The Law of Dependent Origination
Our minds are affected as much when we're listening as when we're speaking. We can't control how other people are going to be speaking to us. The Buddha is just pointing out that even in those most extreme circumstances, if we're being mindful, we can stay centered and just acknowledge that that's how they are speaking. So it's not pretending that they're not. This would be an amazing practice.
