In august 1966 chávez and itlion agreed to merge their organizations to form a new union the united farm workers organizing committee like a walk you would have the money and support of the afl cio to back it up. delores huerta became the union's boycott director in 13 years of working together chávez had come to rely on her as his most trusted advisor she developed a nationwide boycott plan targeting ten cities that collectively accounted for half of all sales of california grapes.
