Michael Rus was born in 1940, just when the Second World War was starting. His father was a conscientious objector so he grew up as a Quaker. He went to university to read mathematics but on his second day realized he wasn't a university mathematician. And I didn't realize that was the training I was getting to become a philosopher because that's what we did.
