The Importance of Thinking and Talking About Writing
I used to think not very much because to me fiction and non-fiction were so separate. But about a maybe two years ago now I started reading a lot of literary criticism and it was actually very healing to read it, he says. He feels like the American literary critics of the 1950s were writing about issues that still feel very alive to him aesthetically and socially today instead of putting a lot of language to things in his own life or practice as a fiction writer. The discursive terrain of my fiction is broadening as I'm writing more criticism but almost from the inside out if that makes any sense it does.
