The Duty of Preaching the Word of God
Calvin: It is not without good cause that God strongly exhorts those whose duty it is to preach the word, not to seek grace and favor in the eyes of men. As many as desire to make a fair show in the flesh, they beg you to be circumcised only so they won't suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law, but desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. We know it to be impossible for us to fulfill our office properly unless we fix our eyes upon God and turn our eyes away from men."
