The Purpose of Fastness
The purpose of a fast is to cause a focus on the tragedies that are facing the people. A normal, healthy person does not undergo significant suffering if it doesn't eat for 14 hours. When you're fasting, you're totally conscious of the fact that you're not eating and drinking today. That's the point. The point is to be mentally focused,. There should be some kind of communal focus so that there could be an analysis of what failures led to the tragedy., he said.
