The Glue.acot log is serverless and it works with all the other AWS services that would need a Hive meta data catalog. You can create as well as using crawlers like you were saying in the organizations I've been in. It's very much bare bones but also going to be very helpful, particularly the versioning aspect of the tables. That can be pretty handy if you're looking to do any kind of drift detection or potentially even scheme of evolution.
