The History of Climate Science

Professor Ed Hawkins is a climate scientist at the University of Reading. He says we have an awful lot of very old records of temperature and other aspects of the climate going back a couple of centuries or more. The filmometer was invented 400 years ago or so, so people have been measuring temperature for a very long time. In 1938, came the first full attempt at creating a global temperature time series. And that was made by an amateur meteorologist called Guy Callender in the UK.
