The Role of Breathing in Critically Ill Patients
In the oldest days of mechanical ventilation, there was no provision for that. So you're going to have some mix in most patients between this kind of P-musque and the P-Vent from the ventilator. And more than triggering what can become challenging is the effort within individual breath. Patients with ARDS don't have normal lung volumes. A lot of their lung is shunted off with goo, and therefore the title volume of delivering is being squeezed into a much smaller lung.
