Max the beekeeper said California's drought is one of the major threats. Bees need water like every human being and they need green, so they need flowers. Without the water, everything is dry and dead. So yes, it has affected the bees a lot. It has become very difficult to keep bees year round in the Central Valley.

Humanity can’t survive without bees, which is why bees are big business for thieves. Today, Explained’s Haleema Shah heads to the capital of sting operations — California’s Central Valley — to find out who’s beehind these thefts and why they're happening.
