Why Does Life Insist?

I tweeted Richard Dawkins, the famous atheist. I asked him, why does life insist? And they didn't understand what's that mean. Why do you have to fight to stay alive and make sure your genes stay alive? You know. If nothing matters, wouldn't the obvious thing to do be go extinct? To me that would be the clear and obvious self-evident thing to do. But it'd be great if there was some sort of transformation of everything in this world into a better version of itself. It's very hard to believe but once you're there, you'll totally get it.
