The Cost of a Perfect Dinner Party Experience

How much time goes into it? But also what is the striving attached to it, for example? So making the cake may feel really joyous and it may feel really fun. The second part of that is thinking about this kind of notion of the law of diminishing returns.

It was Charlie's birthday party on Sunday, a couple of days

ago. Yeah.

And so how much time goes into it? But also what is the striving attached to it, for example? So making the cake may feel really joyous and it may feel really fun and you know this is something that you're doing for your child. But for some people, it may feel really stressful that it must be perfect, must be looking this way for my child. And what happens to your experience of joyfulness in those moments? And also what happens when you bring the cake out and there are a million kids here and like people are blowing candles and then someone puts their hand in the cake, you know, what's happened to that experience for you? And so again, this question is like, is the cost worth it for me? The second part of that is thinking about this

kind of notion of the law of diminishing returns. So
Speaker 1
if I only get a 5% extra outcome on this, again, is that really worth the striving that happened for me?
Speaker 2
I think about it in terms of like if you have people over for dinner and you're cooking dinner and there's some people put a lot of pressure on themselves to make this create this incredible dinner party experience. And it's very stressful and it's like getting these incredible ingredients. But as a dinner party guest, the dinner parties that I really love and remember don't often have a lot to do with the quality of the food. That's the feeling of the night and the people who are there and the chats we have, which is like it's the way that you feel during that dinner party. But as a dinner party host, often the stresses are about like, well, make sure we get the good salmon or make sure it's like, but at the end of the day, I think that is that law of diminishing returns where it's like, just because you've spent $5 more in that pastor and you've got a perfectly Al dente that isn't really going to affect the enjoyment levels of the guest.
