The Stable State Theory and the Big Bang

The Big Bang was definitely the first idea. Do you know if the steady state theory came out before the Big Bang or roughly at the same time independently? So people like George LaMartre and other sorts of people early on were advocating for something like the Big Bang. People like Fred Hoyle, who was probably the biggest proponent of the steadystate theory, came up with alternatives because they didn't like things about the Big Bang theory.
