i didn't attend these shows live, but i've watched every clip of them that i can find. The extent to which the other guys actively prevent sammy from showing how talented he is seems pretty shocking. Harry bellfonte, who was also a big star in vegus at this point and would occasionally socialize with sammy and frank, observed that sammy felt lucky to be there. To have frank clude him as one of the pack was the single greatest honor of his life. He constantly demeaned himself, breaking into his little black boy routine. Sammy was treading carefully in a vagus that was still largely separate and unequal.
