Is Mark Coming First?
If you compare just mark and matthew, there are numerous places where matthew adds detail to what mark arty has. Mark might have an allusion to an old nesman tax. Matthew cites that old diometax. So when you try to figure out which is more plausible, it seems much more plausible that mark comes first. And that really helps us see, then, what matthew thinks he's doing, in a way, as taking up the tradition, the story, basically, the framework of mark,. but adding to that with other authoritive traditions and details.
