Ramdas was teaching a class in oakland on service in bodisatfa. She said, every dayad when i go to work am for many, many months, there's a homeless guy that sits on my way to the bart and i've been putting a quarter in his cup. But i realize since i started taking this class, that i never really look him in the eye. The real meaning of compassion also has to include one other person, guess who? Moi,. as miss peggy would say, you know, if it's for them and not for oneself, it's not really compassion, it's something else.
