Introduction
Florence Nightingale was born in 1820, 200 years ago. She came from a wealthy family and was educated like a lady. When she told her parents that she wanted to be a nurse they were angry and dead. Two hundred years ago, nurses were not very important people. They were often from the poorest parts of society. To have a wealthy, educated woman become a nurse is unusual.
