Dante's account of sin and the human suffering are very closely linked to those of Thomas Aquinas. Dante is going to become kind of more formalized as we go, but for now, what we have is just this kind of internal chaos that is being dominated over by one force: love. The whole being of him is wrapped up in it. And he wants her. There's no question that there's like a physical component to this. But at the same time, there's something more profound. It's almost like a total union he desires or a total possession or a total communion.
