The Aura of Reproduction and Decline

This chapter explores Walter Benjamin's concept of aura in relation to mechanical reproduction. It discusses how the true aura of the original work of art can only be perceived in its decline through reproduction and highlights Lacan's use of the Ambassadors painting to exemplify the significance of repetition in establishing and effacing the aura.
