Why Quants Want to Own Stocks That Are Predictable

I think quants really want to see low variability in earnings, quarter to quarter. That shows a sign of a very predictable business, which is a sign of quality. Why would quants not want to own something that because they're just get flipped in and out of it? If it doesn't have consistent? I think there's so much capital attributed to those types of businesses.
