In 1837, the New York Herald described King as quote, an old bachelor. He has on this account, I presume, been called Miss Nancy, a connyoman which he still bears. The things that was worst, I think, about him in his political career other than the full throat of supportive slavery that he never took both sides of. Buchanan did seek the nomination, but the nomination went to Louis Cass of Michigan who lost.
