The Sensory and Behavioral Ecology of Bees

Professor Lars Chippka specialises in the sensory and behavioural ecology of bees. All invertebrates, or at least all insects and arthropods and crustaceans can see ultraviolet light. We are in a sense unique in that we cannot see this dimension to the visual spectrum. There are some animals out there that have wholly different color vision systems such as mantis shrimps. Exploring how technology and adaptations in the natural world could not only help extend our senses, but maybe could add a few extras even.
