The days of the Republican Party representing small governments are probably over at least in, you know, this present age. That's not what this particular strain of conservatism is about. When it comes down to actual policies, they have no policy. And if they do propose certain policies, they're really not very popular. So they have to keep these moral battles going because that's how they keep a foothold. The wealthy and powerful stay wealthy and powerful. They've got to figure out how to get the little guy on their side.
