The History of Gunpowder
Gunpowder continued to be used as a curative property in traditional Chinese medicine for things like rainworm and various skin issues into the 16th century. saltpeter had many uses outside the creation of, say, elixirs of immortality or the creation of gunpowder. For example, saltpeter has long been a preservative for certain kinds of foods. In a way, it's an elixir of immortality for salami. Yeah, that's great. My next novel should be called The Story That's Worth a Million Bucks. It's just good marketing.
