Far less occasions for members of different than of the same societies to meet one another, and when they do so their common topics are likely to lie outside science altogether. Aperattas and assistants do not make science, but without them it grows in a crippled way like a starved young animal. The real strategy is that men with ideas in an unrecognized field are kept short of supplies until as the result of many years' work they have achieved results which attract sufficient attention.
