The Anion Gap and Suicides
The patients are trying to commit suicide by either drinking Antifreeze, which is ethylene glycol or methanol. All the ones that i've seen have always had a pretty huge anion gap And then and also a pretty big osmolar gap when we measured it. The parent compounds are non polar or they're non they're not ions right there. They don't produce any type of anion gap So early on they'll have this big osmolars gap, which we'll talk about shortly.
