The Limitations of Reality
We expect that if an alien came to this planet, it would travel using fossil fuels because that's how we are trying to leave our planet. Why would an intelligent life form have to be visible to us in order to exist? This is something I noticed with TV shows: whenever they show aliens, one, aliens always look humanoid and two, they always happen to speak English. That perception is a reflection on the limitation that we impose on ourselves outside of the entertainment world.
