Antisthenes and Diogenes' Antisocial Attitudes
Like Antisthenes, Diogenes regarded himself as wealthy in his poverty. He said that gold is a pale color because it is afraid, so many men are plotting against it. For asking a man who was slow to give him any money, he said, I'm asking for a handout, not funeral expenses. His life as a beggar gave rise to some further choice anecdotes.
