CHAPTER

The Importance of Podcasting

I feel like me talking for long periods of time just fits there so naturally, and it just performs so much better there. But I also love the fact that I don't have to be physically on camera for my podcast. Being on camera physically is very exhausting. It's a whole different layer of performative content. Like you're performing like what you're saying, but then you also have to worry about facial expressions as well. So I get it. And I think that I've grown a lot closer with my audience through the podcast because it's so incredibly intimate for me and for them. "It's such an amazing platform"

Like, they're going to YouTube for
Speaker 4
quicker content.
Speaker 1
And so with podcasting, I feel like me talking for long periods of time just fits there so naturally. And
Speaker 5
it just
Speaker 1
performs so much better there. But I also love the fact that I don't have to be physically on camera for
Speaker 5
my podcast. Because
Speaker 1
for whatever reason, being on camera physically is very exhausting. I
Speaker 4
think part
Speaker 1
of it is just because you're constantly looking at yourself, like, what do I look like in this angle? You're constantly thinking about what you're looking like. It's
Speaker 2
another element of performing. Like you're performing like what you're saying, but then you also have to worry about facial expressions and this and that, whatever. It's like, it's a whole different layer of performative content. So I get it.
Speaker 4
It's just nice to kind of be able to hide behind the microphone
Speaker 1
and just talk and share my
Speaker 4
thoughts and ideas and stories and things like that in a
Speaker 1
way where I feel kind of safe and protected and nobody can see me physically. They're just hearing me and it's kind of like on the phone. It's sort of like how when, say, you're confronting somebody about something, it's a lot
Speaker 4
scarier to do it face to
Speaker 1
face than it is to do it over the phone because there's something about disconnecting
Speaker 4
seeing, you know, your face that makes you feel more protected. And so I
Speaker 1
feel a lot more
Speaker 4
comfortable talking for a
Speaker 1
long time without a camera in my face. And I also think that,
Speaker 5
you know, on YouTube,
Speaker 1
I don't necessarily want to be talking about a lot of stuff. I like showing stuff. I feel like YouTube is for showing and podcast is for telling. And
Speaker 5
that just is what feels like intuitive to me. And I've
Speaker 1
loved it. And I think that I've grown a lot closer with my audience through the podcast because it's
Speaker 5
so incredibly intimate for me
Speaker 1
and for them. I mean, it truly is. It's the most intimate thing that I do. Yet I feel the safest and most connected while
Speaker 4
doing it. It's such an amazing platform. Right.
Speaker 2
And to kind of sum things up, I mean, it's you've been called, you know, one of the most important YouTubers, like there are many articles just talking about like how important and influential you've been.
