The Fence Id Accident - Did Anyone Ever Try to Teach Me to Swim?
Joy was one of the few kids at her predominantly white school who couldn't swim. She struggled to relax in the water and wouldn't let go of the edge of the pool long enough to splash, let alone learn the back stroke. The enslaved africans were losing touch with their long tradition of swimming so their enslavers had more control over them. This went on for far too long, but eventually, black americans were freed.
