Why More Education Is Not Always Better For The Economy

Economics Explained

CHAPTER

Introduction

Education is one of the most important variables in determining economic success. Countries with little to no natural resource wealth, poor geographic positions and even unstable geopolitical situations can outperform countries that have a better educated population. In economics there can be too much of a good thing when it comes to education. Finding the right balance will be hard as new technologies are constantly changing the skill sets demanded by the economy. If economies can prosper or perish based on the skills of their people then it's something we're going to have to get right.
