Tom owen is an archevist at the university of louisville. Tom told us he often bikes past wywys old block. Back in the thirties, it was a row of brick shok gun style, houses where upper middle class black families lived. At the time, there was only one department store in louisville where black customers could try on clothes. Wywys school, like all schools, was segregated,. and black residents lived with the constant threat of racest violence including the threat of lynchings.
