Introduction

Pittsburgh Penguins fan Kelly Swatsky received a kidney transplant last month. Another Penguins fan, Jeff Lind of Delaware, offered to donate his kidney. Iran is the only country that has a market on which people can buy and sell human kidneys. Allowing the market to handle kidney donations would not stop people like Jeff Lind from donating. But when there aren't enough donations, paying donors would encourage more people with healthy kidneys to offer theirs.
