The Ancient Greeks, Let's All Have Our Statues in the Nude, the Romans
The ancient Greeks were obsessed with female modesty. One woman who tried to challenge this, Friny, stripped naked on the beach and walked into the sea at the festival of Poseidon was sentenced to death for impiety. The Romans were somewhat less modest. Women's bodies have been blamed for everything from earthquakes to warfare and even the downfall of the Roman Empire.
