The Last Logs of the Season
We worked in the garden for a few hours before dark clouds rolled in. We were quiet as we worked, listening to the sound of the birds making plans above us. It felt so good to clean out the old leaves and that growth and see the fresh black dirt ready for planting. When the first drops landed on our necks and faces, we turned back to the house. The dogs had long ago gotten bored and gone in. And although the light was fading, we took a walk through the yard to look at what we'd done.
