Safati Was a Political Prisoner, but He Was Politically Minded.
Hassan Safati was one of the very few marocons who favoured independence for Western Sahara, Spain's former colony. At the time of his arrest, it was still run by the Spanish, but it was due for decolonisation. Both the palace and the major political parties did not believe that Spanish Sahara on independence should pass to the indigenous people - like most African colonies.
