How Did You Deal With Interviewees With Personal Failures?

I grew up listening to hip hop and me and my brother we shined shoes and the first album we bought was Run DMC Run DMC. I'm always going to be driven by somebody like Kendrick Lamar artists who are preaching messages out there. How did you deal with interviewees with their personal failings? You acknowledge what happened in the past and not try to sugarcoat anything but try to prevent facts and realities and what you can go on.
