The Primary Outcome of the Device Trial

The primary outcome of the device trial was successful innovation on the first attempt. This is a very stringent definition where success had to be attained on the one laryngoscope insertion and one tubing insertion in the mouth. In the direct-learning scope group, first-pass success happened in 70.8% of patients. In the video-learningscope group, it was 85.1%. We found pretty clearly that operators with the least prior experience seemed to benefit the most from use of a video-learning scope.
