Suzanne Simard: Foresters who built the forest industry through 1900s didn't spend as much time in the forest. She says they spent more time with their textbooks and computers trying to model out how to make the perfect forest that's going to produce the most money. "I was coming at it from just a place of curiosity," she says about her PhD thesis.
