The Commercial Banking System

The commercial banking system keeps securities and loans available for sale marking to market and then hold to maturity. The Federal Reserve always does hold hold to maturity unless they are selling assets which they very rarely do quantitative tightening is only balance sheet run off it's it is not selling assets. Half of the banking system could have negative equity in terms of the the losses on these securities could be greater than the current equity or market cap or book value of the entire company yeah.
