Lord of the Rings - The Eye of Sauron
We don't actually see Sauron in physical form in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The eye thing is actually a movie-only thing, the physical eye. Adar makes reference to something called the Unseen World in this sort of speech that he is giving. Think of it like the place where Frodo puts on the Ring and he sees the Ring Raths as their true form.
