The Heuristic of PSA Testing
The evidence for PSA test is quite clear. We do not have evidence that lives are safe. There's a little controversy on whether PSA testing reduces mortality from prostate cancer, but in total mortality and in total cancer mortality, there's no evidence that there's any difference. The consequence of this test can be terrible for many men. About 20 of every 100 men suffer from taking the tests either by having false positives and unnecessary biopsies or being having actually a non-progressive version of prostate cancer.
