The Implications of a Short Parent's Height

One of the things that always comes up when a child is at a lower growth chart or when there's questions coming up about someone being shorter in their class like our patient here is looking at the parent's height. To get a mid-parental height, you just have to do this weighted average. Men are about 13 centimeters or 5 inches taller than women. So for a boy, you're going to have to add 13 centimeters or5 inches to mom's height and for a girl, you'regoing to have to subtract 13 centimeters or five inches from the father's height before averaging it with the other parent. But not everybody is going to get to that exact target.
