What Is the QA Process?

In general, quality assurance starts to do some manual exploratory testing. They also can look into the test coverage from development site. But usually they don't participate in creating developer tests. Mostly our code assurance tests that features that are user-visible. For example, we don't test how its compiler generates proper code. We test how it works from user site.
