Diatoms Capture Carbon

Diatoms get energy from photosynthesis, just like seagrass, so they also capture carbon. Even though they're tiny, only micrometers across, there are a lot of them. Hymanty says between them they fix 10 to 20 billion tons of carbon every year. Diatoms are comparable to the total rainforest combined.
