Political science is playing catch up to other disciplines on the issue of abortion. Abortion became political in the twentieth century, but it wasn't until later that two parties took distinctive positions about this issue. Party platforms overtime take increasingly polarized positions, with democrats advocating for broad abortioned rights, and republicans the opposite.
